Cats: They’re everywhere you don’t want them to be.

Click on that picture or right here for cats behaving badly, brought to you in glorious Quicktime (9.9MB, 2-ish minutes).

Yes. That’s a cat sitting on my computer. No, I did not place her there for a photo-op. Rest assured, what you are about to see is neither staged nor a re-enactment. This is full-on live kitty cat action. I was just lucky enough to have time to grab my camera to capture these precious (and really not-so-precious moments) on film. The only time I didn’t was when I walked into the kitchen to find the cat with all four of her legs in the toaster slots. It seemed too unsafe to leave her there like that.

    I have four.

Lucy is the oldest. She is fat, sweet and pretty stupid; when she was a year-old, my wife put her on a leash so should could sit on the porch outside (this was before I began living with Cindy). She obvioulsy couldn’t tell that the screen in the screen door wasn’t an open window. My wife found out about it after several minutes, thanks to the mailman knocking and saying “hey, lady, your cat is hanging herself.” Lately, Lucy has been driving me nuts by jumping up on the dinner table, or my bedside table to drink the water I have in a glass. Its rather obnoxious.

Jeremey I named after the song “Jeremy” by Pearl Jam, because as a kitten, I determined that he was a psycho; he would bite and bite and sometimes scratch (people, furniture, etc.). after a couple of months he calmed down. After a year I doscovered that he knows his name, what a cat food pull-up tab sounds like, and when you spend some time with him, you begin to realize he is smart…in fact, way too smart. He seems to understand full sentences.

Gunnar (pronounced “goo-narr”) I named after a resident I took care of at DHC’s short-term care unit when I was a nurse aide. His care plan stated “primary language is Norweigan” I found out that his ONLY language is Norweigan, and it took his American relatives to make his needs known. I got a kick out of the grumpy little old man, and symaptized with his inability to communicate with us. Gunnar the cat however, sits on the bannister in the middle of the night every so often and howls like a banshee with a deep voice. He also enjoys walking up and down our bodies (also in the middle of the night). He seems a little smart too-he’s figured out how to turn up the heater on the tropical fishtank and the filter on the large goldfish tank. Maybe a bit sadistic.

Henry was my wife’s idea, for the simple reason “I always wanted a cat named Henry.” Okay, sure. Henry is a lot like Lucy-dumb and sweet. He likes to sniff my face late at night…after Gunnar has walked the Sonic distance, of course.

Darnit, my comment got eaten because I messed up word ver. Oh well, cute kitties. Mine only will eat meat off the counter, if you turn your back while cooking. The banana bread and cereal cracked me up.

I was pretty unhappy to find her up there on my beloved shinysilverbaby, but at the time she was still very underweight (she’s a Katrina Kitty–spend a few weeks on the streets) and was more like a hairy snake than a cat so I wasn’t too worried. But then she wouldn’t get off! And doesn’t it seem likt she leaves her paw on my keyboard on purpose? My dog wouldn’t ever be that naughty.
