Saturday in the Park With Maisie

July 1, 2006 | Filed under: un-vlogged, NYC

Gorgeous day in the city today: gently warm and not the least bit humid. Maisie and I took a several-hours-long walk through beautiful Western Queens…okay, not all of it was beautiful, some of it was industrial and sort of barren. Armed with a large bottle of water and a Godfather hero (salami, cappicola, prosciutto, sopressata, provelone, lettuce, onions, sweet peppers, tomato, oil, vinegar, salt, pepper, oregano, mayo) we set forth toward Socrates Sculpture Park. A neat little spot about 25 blocks away with cool large-scale art and a killer view of Manhattan. It’s a terrific place to enjoy a sandwich with your dog. Then I got ambitious: we headed north-ish toward Astoria Park and enjoyed the greenery and scenery there, too. I figured since it was such a nice day, why not? Well, Miss Maisie is no spring chicken, and got tuckered out pretty quickly. This was probably the most walking she’s done at once in years. She took frequent water breaks and I took lots of pictures and once we reached Astoria Pool we treated ourselves to hotdogs (onions & mustard for me, plain for her) and a cherry Marino’s Italian ice (complete with little wooden spoon).

Once home, we fell into a furry heap onto the floor. Both of us.

Wow! You guys sure walked a long ways. No wonder you’re so fit. I miss taking long walks. With 111 degrees tempatures in the summer here, I’ll have to wait when it gets cooler. My dog Pumpkin use to walk with me, but now getting up in age. Maybe I’ll get him a baby carriage. Since were both getting old, I’ll have something to lean on too…lol!

Did my comment take the first time? I said this:

Sometimes I wish I could take Homer the cat on walks, but then I realize he’s a homebody like me and am happy to have a napping buddy instead. Looks like a great trek. Good for Maisie :)
