Summer Vacation. You know, that time when you get to devote all your spare time to sitting on the internet all day swimming, hiking, grilling, biking and socializing? Well, since I left all the chargers and camera cables in the apartment, it looks like I actually *will* have to resort to swimming, hiking, grilling and socializing (no biking for me. Long sad, sad story).

No editing, no uploading photos to Flickr, no squeezing out video from my good ol’ Xacti. Nada.

I hardly know what to do with myself.

The first annual New Kingston Film Festival premiers Saturday, July 26, 2008 at the Lipko Barn! You know, the one across from the big field with the red London telephone booth in it. No, seriously. I’m not making that up. There’s a phone booth in it.

Come by and enjoy shorts, documentaries and features hand-selected with loving care by us! Feel the warm Catskillian breeze blow through your hair(s)! Feast on good eats! I personally guarantee that if you come to the festival you’ll fall so in love with it here that you’ll want to stay the rest of your natural life.

(I may have overdone it with that last line…maybe I should get a job with the Delaware County Department of Tourism?)

It’s been awhile, I know, I know! Things are in high gear right now and don’t allow me to post as frequently as I’d like. Life does this sometimes. And MAN, have I got loads to post. I’ve got cooking videos and New York City videos and quitting-my-job videos, and holiday videos up the yingyang; but it’s the quitting-my-job-thing that’s tying up all my free time. Mostly by stressing me out, but I’m also tied up with orientation at my new job. Everything there is unfamiliar. The IV pumps, the angiocaths, the computer systems, all of it. Actually, it’s freaking me out.

So, yes, I haven’t been posting because I’m too busy freaking out.

Next week? Less freak-out and more videos!

Oops..did I say that out loud? Well, there haven’t been any videos because I can’t upload anything larger than a lo-res photo the way my internet connection has been behaving these past few weeks. I called TWC/RR on 12/19 to report the problem and was told “It’s not just you. We’re working on it.” Then the problem got worse. Loading web pages feels like I’m back in 1994 with my Performa 550, America Online and my 2400 baud modem dialing the one access number at 6pm on a Friday night. My point here is that the sucker is slow.

So I call back yesterday and I’m told “Oh, no, it IS just you! We’ll send someone out. On January 26th.”

“Fine. So where’s my credit? Surely I’ll be issued some kind of credit for this $60/mo service that’s working at 15% capacity, right?”

“Yes, of course”, she says, but they’ll only issue me a credit from the time the service call was requested. That is to say NOT from 12/19 when I made the initial complaint was was told I didn’t NEED a service call because it WASN’T just me, but rather from 1/12 when they decided to send someone out to fix it. Nice.

Four transfers later, some Tier-Three Customer Service Rep in the Please Don’t Cancel Your Cable Dep’t assured me that I’ll receive some kind of apology-credit from 12/19. We’ll see if they actually do it.

In the meanwhile, I’m off to the fair exotic city of Constantinople for two weeks! My first real vacation in a lonnnngggg time. And although I’ve been instructed my many to leave the laptop at home, I can’t. The choice was either buy more storage for my camera or drag the computer with me so I have a place to dump the media.

Also, there’s wi-fi in the hotel lobby.

So there you go.

And here *I* go!

August is shaping up to be A Month Without Posting. Cool Catskill summer breezes, house painting, gardening and job woes conspire to keep me from my computer! No matter; my camera still rolls, footage still gets imported, it just doesn’t get edited, that’s all! What a boom-time September will be!

I miss you.

Well, it’s only the 18th…there’s still time to squeeze in some August action!
